چکیده
Abstract A multi-component aerodynamic test for an airframe-engine integrated scramjet vehicle model was conducted in the free-piston shock tunnel HIEST. free-flight force measurement technique applied to named MoDKI. new method using multiple piezoelectric accelerometers developed based on overdetermined system analysis. Its unique features are following: (1) The accelerometer’s mounting location can be more flexible. (2) precision is predicted improved by increasing number of accelerometers. (3) angular acceleration obtained with single-axis translational instead gyroscopes. (4) Through averaging process accelerometers, natural vibration expected mitigated. With eight model-onboard three-component coefficients (Drag, Lift, and Pitching moment) MoDKI were successfully measured at angle attack from 0.7 3.4 degrees under a Mach 8 free-stream flow condition. linear regression fitting revealed 95% prediction interval as each coefficient. ISOABE 99-7215 Propulsion System Airframe Integration Issues and Aerodynamic Database Development for the Hyper-X Flight Research Vehicle
NASA’s Hyper-X Research Vehicle will provide a unique opportunity to obtain data on an operational airframe integrated scramjet propulsion system at true flight conditions. The airframe integrated nature of the scramjet engine with the Hyper-X vehicle results in a strong coupling effect between the propulsion system operation and the airframe’s basic aerodynamic characteristics. Comments on gen...
متن کاملScramjet Systems Integration for a Dual Mode Scramjet Flight Test
The Hy-V project will conduct the first-ever mode-transition flight-test for a dual-mode hypersonic scramjet, which will occur at approximately 90,000 feet onboard a sounding rocket. At altitude, atmospheric conditions and inlet flow speed will match the flow conditions simulated in the UVA Aerospace Research Laboratory (ARL) hypersonic wind tunnel. Geometric similarity between the wind tunnel ...

This paper provides an overview of the activities associated with the aerodynamic database which is being developed in support of NASA’s Hyper-X scramjet flight experiments. Three flight tests are planned as part of the Hyper-X program. Each will utilize a small, nonrecoverable research vehicle with an airframe integrated scramjet propulsion engine. The research vehicles will be individually ro...
متن کاملAerodynamic characteristics of flying fish in gliding flight.
The flying fish (family Exocoetidae) is an exceptional marine flying vertebrate, utilizing the advantages of moving in two different media, i.e. swimming in water and flying in air. Despite some physical limitations by moving in both water and air, the flying fish has evolved to have good aerodynamic designs (such as the hypertrophied fins and cylindrical body with a ventrally flattened surface...

The dynamic longitudinal-stability characteristics of a st,andard wind tunnel interference model have been investigated in free flight over a Mach number range of 0.92 to I, 35.. Measurements of lift-curve slope and manoeuvre margin were obtained, and are compared vjith results from transonic-tunnel tests under low blockage conditions. The analysis was extended to obtain damping derivatives to ...
